A Journey Worth Starting
The final goal is not just getting healthy and returning to old habits, but staying healthy after turning yourself around and keep going at it.
Here’s my question to you: What can we do when diagnosed with Pre-diabetes conditions? Or even, do they belong to the high-risk group for certain conditions?
Everyone goes into this stage in their life where they have to make a decision. Do they want to continue as they were or start making a change?
In my case, it was when a routine medical checkup report gave me a list of red markers. Several of them were beyond the maximum limits and telling me how bad my health had become.
Since becoming a father, I had pretty much stopped exercising and had been sticking to bad eating habits. While younger me might be able to brush it off, age would have told a different tale. Now, the doctor told me I need to go on medications for my symptoms mainly type 2 diabetes. But I don’t want to start taking diabetic medicine from my 30s!! And surely don’t want to be in such conditions when just starting a family.
Getting a Second Opinion
In this case, I recommend everyone else to get a second doctor’s opinion which I did. My second doctor is more positive about my condition and says I am only proceeding towards type 2 diabetes. That’s Pre-diabetic.
Pre-diabetes is a condition when a person’s fasting blood sugar level is not high enough to be considered type-2 diabetes, YET. This means there is still a chance to reverse the damages or at the least slow the process towards Type-2 diabetes.
Anyway, I was given 2 choices, I could start taking medications. This would allow me to live on with my bad habits for the rest of my life. Or, I could make some lifestyle changes and try to reverse the damage done to my body over the years.
On that day I took some advice from my doctor and decided to make “staying healthy” an ongoing purpose, my goal in life, and my lifelong pursuit. I will aim to achieve the Max Wholesome meter (thus the blog title) as much as I can.
I will work on a Holistic approach to my health by addressing the physical, mental, and emotional aspects. This of course includes making changes to my bad eating habits.
Now, I know you think that it is going to take a lot of dedication and commitment and yes it is. I put in my commitments, these were necessary and I disciplined myself to achieve my goals.
When you choose to be healthy again and want to live life to its full potential it’s a must.
My point is…
Everyone can start making changes to stay healthy for the better. This is where I wholly agree with the saying “If you can’t start with 30 minutes, start with 5 minutes and work your way up.”
Anyway, after only a short 12 months into this new aim in life I have managed to bring home a health report with most of the things returned to normal range, free from red markers, and best of all, I still don’t need lifelong medications and boy was that a relief for me.
Lessons for Staying Healthy
This experience made me want to share my experiences and things I learned throughout my journey from here on out. The path toward staying healthy will be a long one, it is never-ending, and there will always be newer things to learn.
